New Terrain

After getting just over 2.5 feet in the past few days, Squaw was able to open some real lifts today. Squaw Creek, Red Dog, Far East Express, and Exhibition (as well as some carpets) were all open today. After 100+ runs on Kangaroo this week, we decided to try Squaw out. That was a mistake….

A Bit of New Snow

Hello Skiers and Boarders, Last night winds howled over the ridge tops gusting over 100 miles per hour.  The winds began dropping as snow began falling around 3a.m..  Snow fell until about 7 this morning.  It was a very short storm with cold temperatures. Temperatures were in the teens early in the morning and only…

Spring Snow at Squaw

Hello Skiers and Boarders, A couple of mid-morning runs on Kangaroo proved to be lonely, but offered smooth soft spring snow. It is definitely warm outside and the forecast is for warmer weather for the next few days. We took the shuttle over to Squaw at 11:30 and rode the Funitel to the upper mountain….

Opening Day at Alpine

I made quite a few runs on Roundhouse this morning before Summit and Scott opened. My favorite run off Roundhouse was Tiegel Chutes—knee deep powder for most of the morning, and still great in the afternoon….

Clear Skies and Corn Snow

Hello Skiers and Riders, The day started out overcast with flat light. I changed my goggle lens expecting a flat light day. By the time I walked out of the locker room the sky had cleared and there was not a cloud in site. It has been that way all day. Thin high clouds followed…

Colder and Firmer

The temperature overnight and this morning was definitely colder than yesterday. Off-piste runs stayed pretty firm almost all day, with the exception of some south- and east-facing slopes, making groomers pretty much the only option for the morning. After one firm run on Sunspot at 10, we headed straight for High-T. The run down to Sherwood was…

Parking Full, Great Skiing

Valleygirl reported that Far East opened at 8:30 this morning with no lines and that there was still parking in the second row.  However, by 9:41, Squaw’s parking was full, as Friends of Squaw Valley posted on Facebook this morning. Valleygirl also noted that there were no significant lines at Squaw today, and traffic wasn’t bad tonight….
