Hello Skiers,
This morning it was snowing lightly as they opened Roundhouse for the first time this year. White rain was falling from the sky. It was snow, but it was wet. If you would like to know how it felt to be on the hill this morning slip on your snow pants over a warm pair of long underwear and then fill a tub with water and sit in it for a couple of hours.
Okay, we were wet and went in after an hour and a half to dry out, but we went back out for a second round. Just because it was wet does not mean the skiing was not good. In fact the skiing was very good. A crust formed on the off-piste snow overnight that was think enough to allow us to ski on top of it. Smooth and totally enjoyable. There are rain ruts about half way down Yellow Trail which were getting skied out later in the morning as the snow let up and chairs dried out.
It was foggy on the mountain at times which made visibility somewhat difficult, but that did not hinder us too much. We skied Yellow Trail, Weasel, Red Trail (Dance Floor), The Face, and even God’s Knob along with a few variations of the above. Summit appears to be on schedule for tomorrow. I heard they have over four feet of snow at the snow stake located between Wolverine and Beaver Bowls. The mountain looked like mid-winter today. Coverage is not perfect, but better then many years I can remember for this time of year. This wet snow has pasted itself on the slopes covering many rocks and outcrops that would normally be visible at this time of year. With more snow on the way for the weekend, we should be in even better shape. I have been using my new skis without any hesitation.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
