Hello Skiers and Boarders,
This afternoon it feels and looks like spring. Sunshine is making me feel warm although actual temperatures are cool. It was 30 degrees at the base of Alpine at 1pm and in the 20’s on the upper mouintain.
Skiing has been excellent the past few days. Yesterday morning under sunny skies and cool temperatures there was powder to destroy. I did not get onto the mountain until afternoon when the skies clouded over again and light went flat. It snow again overnight a few inches which opened clean slate this morning. The best skiing I found was in Palisades, High Yellow, D7, Promised Land, and Scott Chute. Areas that were not baked in the sun remain in cold winter snow condition. We did take one run over the High Traverse and found plenty of untracked snow in the Big Bend area. It was a little dense, but still made for fun turns. A photo is attached.
Saturday is supposed to be sunny and warmer (into the 40’s) which will most likely change conditions, especially on the south facing slopes.
Are you coming to Squaw or Alpine this weekend? If you are please take note that Squaw is hosting the Winter Wondergrass Tahoe Festival this weekend. Large crowds are expected for the festival many of whom may not be skiers. Thus, parking may fill quickly at both resorts early in the morning.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
