Hello Skiers and Boarders,
And so the snow keeps falling. Another 18 to 24 inches overnight and into the afternoon. High winds prevented most lifts from opening today. I believe Hot Wheels was spinning for awhile.
Water is flowing out of Lake Tahoe through the Tahoe City dam. I checked this morning and noted the lake to be less than one foot from the legal limit of 6229.1 feet in elevation. It will be interesting to see what happens later in the spring. Will the lake overflow the Tahoe City dam? I have seen the lake rise up to 6 feet after a heavy winter such as we are currently having in the Sierra.
How much snow has fallen this month? I am not sure, but I understand February’s snow fall exceeded all know records for Squaw Valley. The most snow in any month in history. Is global warming causing these excessive snow and rain events in California during the winter months?
Although the snow has been wet it is snowing down to the Truckee River. There was a natural slide that covered the Alpine Meadows Road this morning between Deer Park Dr. (Entrance 2) and Bear Creek Dr. (Entrance 1). East Gully slid covering the road approximately 10 feet deep. Ski patrol used probes to see if any cars were buried in the snow. As far as I know none were found which is a very good thing.
