First Powder Tracks of the Season

Hello Skiers and Boarders,

Seven inches of new wet snow overnight dropped on to the slopes at Alpine Meadows.  I think more stuck to the upper slopes.  Snow has been coming down off and on all morning in the form of wet showers.

Roads are wet but not white especially at the lower end of the valley.

I went out this morning with Mark Fisher to test the snow on Kangaroo.  The slope is well covered and was only groomed down the center of the main run.  This left some untracked or lightly tracked powder along the sides and on Nick’s Run.  I think a smile crossed by face as I made some turns in the soft stuff.  First powder turns of the season.  We skied for a little over an hour which was just right for me as I am still trying to be a little tentative as I recover from my surgery.

Now for the good news.  There is enough snow on the mountain to open Roundhouse (tomorrow) and Summit (Saturday?).  From what we could see from Kangaroo coverage looks pretty good for early season skiing.  I know there are plenty of rocks and bushes that will be off piste, but I could just imagine tracks all over the place as soon as the lifts open.

A couple of pictures are attached.  Mark insisted on a selfie while we rode the chair.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
