Although I cannot really do very much for a month or so as I recover from my heart surgery, I do hear rumors. This morning, I cannot reveal my source as I promised anonymity to this person, however tentative opening date at Squaw Valley is Nov. 16th (assuming cold weather for snow making on the upper mountain) and Dec. 7th at Alpine. Perhaps earlier at Alpine if it snows enough.
There is a meeting on Oct. 13th in Tahoe City concerning the newly installed Gazex devises that can been seen on the Alpine side of Red Dog. A number of Alpine residents are concerned that these units are installed to close to residential areas. They are worried that the blasts will be very loud and will shake, and possibly harm the windows of homes in the valley. They were installed as a safer way to manage avalanches along the main Alpine Meadows Road. These units are detonated remotely eliminating much, if not all, of the need for human avalanche control that has gone on for decades.
We have had some cloudy weather and even a little rain over the past few days. This has been a relief to some of the fire danger in the area and put local mountain biking trails into excellent condition.
Since I cannot really get out and do much other than slow walks on level ground for a few weeks, I may as well send along a listing or two currently available in Alpine. Below is an upper end home in the Juniper Mountain Subdivision. There is a small remodeled home on Deer Park for sale under $600,000. In addition, I have a pocket listing on a home on Snowcrest with 3 bedroom and a garage. Give me shout if any of you are interested in talking real estate in the Tahoe or Truckee Area.
Enjoy your day,
