Packed Winter Powder

Hello Skiers and Boarders,

It was another awesome day on the slopes with sun and wind over the ridge top.  However, Summit was closed as the winds gusted to 60 miles per hour in the morning hours.  Overnight and morning temperatures remained in the 20’s which helped keep the surface, especially on the north facing slopes, packed powder.  Palisades, Keyhole, D7, North Peril, Waterfall and others were all in beautiful winter condition.  It is warming up this afternoon and tomorrow temperatures are supposed to rise which will begin to transition the surface to spring. Grooming was exceptional.  We screamed down many well groomed slopes in the morning including the main runs at Sherwood and everything off Roundhouse.  Art’s Knob, God’s Knob, High Yellow, Sympathy and many others were delightful all morning.

Summit being closed meant a long traverse from Alpine Bowl Chair to get to D8 etc..

Overnight winds the past couple of days has sculpted the east facing slope of Alpine Bowl creating a condition known as Sastrugi.  Sastrugi conditions are irregular shaped grooves and ridges created by wind.  A couple of photos are attached.  The beauty of having Summit closed, but Alpine Bowl open, is that the Wolverine side of the mountain is basically empty.  A photo is attached.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
