Wet Dense Snow

Hello Skiers and Boarders,

It rained all night long and into the morning hours at the lower elevations in Alpine Meadows.  However wet snow apparently fell at the higher elevations. Alpine reported a foot overnight.            It was snowing at the lodge when I ventured out at noon.  Wet, but snowing.  I imagine the total is now over a foot.  Roundhouse was the top of the mountain today.  I did not see very many good looking tracks as I rode the chair.  Low lying clouds might have been the reason.  Light was an issue for me.  Good snow for making a snowman, but not the best for skiing.  A little wind at the top of Roundhouse.  Graupel was stinging my face on the ride up.  Wet snow stuck to the chairs and created mushy conditions in the parking lot.  With a little practice I was able to make turns that one would consider acceptable in the untracked snow that I hunted down.  The lift and runs were pretty empty.

More snow appears to be on the way with a dropping snow level sometime Friday and into the weekend.  As of 3 pm today it is raining at the elevation of the Truckee River.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
