Awesome Steeps – Flats too Deep

Hello Skiers and Boarders,

Too deep for the flats.  29 inches overnight created a delayed opening this morning.  Add the fact that most of Squaw was delayed or closed for the day and you have too many people anxious to ski.  This morning the breezeway leading from the parking area to the lifts was packed with people waiting for permission to exit onto the hill.  There were more people waiting in the breezeway this morning then I have ever seen before.

At some point they were let out onto the snow, but still waiting to proceed to the Roundhouse line. We took a run up Hot Wheels just to get on the hill.  The untracked was really too deep for the Weasel Run.  We watched as the rope dropped and hundreds of skiers and snowboarders ran to the Roundhouse line.  It was a sight to see.  A run down Yellow Trail was delightful, but still not steep enough for full enjoyment.

People lined up at the Scott Lift waiting over an hour for it to open, then they waited longer at the top of Scott Chute for patrol to turn the sign to green.  We watched from the base of Scott as the herd raced down Scott Chute.  It was nuts in my opinion, but those that did it seemed very happy.

We found some left over powder in the Standard Run area where peace and quiet ruled.  Later we had our best turns on the lower portion of the Sisters.  Steep enough and chest deep to let a little yelp out as snow flew toward our faces.  We left Summit to the herd.

It was great snow, wonderful to see the slopes covered, and we did have some awesome turns.
