Hello Skiers and Boarders,
20 inches of new light snow fell overnight. Give the crew at Alpine Meadows a thumbs up today as all scheduled lifts were operating just after nine this morning. It was windy, snow was falling, and visibility at the Summit was not great, but the lifts were running. A perfect storm day. Easy fun turns in the light powder. Soft underfoot after the powder was cut-up, almost an epic day.
The only frustration was that Squaw was unable to open because of a missing person who was later found and apparently for avalanche control. Unfortunately he was dead. Squaw sent everyone to Alpine which increased the line size, but everyone seemed calm and lines moved relatively quickly.
Scott Chair closed for awhile because of the high winds, but reopened later. Today was the first day Scott Chute was open for the year which is a good size. Maybe the rest of the mountain will open soon. I skied in the trees a little today. Coverage is not perfect, but it is much better than it was a few days ago.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
