Hello Friends,
Winds were howling again over the ridge tops closing Summit and Alpine Bowl Chair. Early morning skies were overcast creating the dreaded flat light condition that I am not fond of these days. Cool, below freezing temperatures created a firm surface on the groomed areas off Roundhouse Chair. Yellow Trail and Ladies Slalom were particularly hard under foot. The slopes received a couple of inches of snow overnight, but they just barely covered the firm surface. Winds are still brisk this afternoon, but the sky has cleared. Hopefully the surface has softened for the afternoon crowd. A photo is attached taken during the morning hours when clouds covered the blue sky, except for a few rays of sun that poked through the clouds landing on the lake.
Rumors are floating around that the location of the proposed gondola is being reconsidered. The newest location that I have heard discussed would take the gondola over the ridge between Alpine and Squaw Valley near the top of Olympic Lady, thus avoiding the current location that interferes with the Granite Chief Wilderness. At first glance this seems like a more acceptable location, although I have not viewed anything showing its exact alignment.
We have also heard rumors that Vail may be interested in acquiring Squaw/Alpine.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
