Just A Beautiful Day

Hello Skiers and Riders,

I missed yesterday which turned out to be a super day according to those that were on the hill.  It snowed all day, the crowds were minimal, and all lifts eventually opened.  A few people claimed is was the best day of the year, or at least one of the best days.  Fresh tracks over soft smooth slopes all day long.  That was yesterday.

Today the sun shone brightly, overnight temperatures were well below freezing, and snow was squeaky walking up to Summit Chair.  Of course south facing slopes softened as the day progressed, but first tracks in Sun Bowl, CB’s, and Big Bend Bowl were joyful.  A photo is attached of our tracks in Sun Bowl.   North facing slopes were better as the sun was not baking them.  We found powder off Shuttle Cornice, next to Reily’s Run, and some left over pockets in Gentian Gully.  Palisades, Open Slope, Lower Saddle, and High Yellow Face were all excellent winter snow today.

There appears to be another storm on the way for tomorrow that promises snow, at least in the morning.  Today was another excellent day of the skiing with all lifts operating at Alpine.  My understanding is that the lower portion of Squaw was not as good as Alpine, but when they opened the upper mountain skiing was also wonderful.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
