Fresh Tracks and a Wet Seat

Hello Skiers and Riders,

It is snowing at a steady pace this afternoon along the Truckee River as well as on the mountain.  All lifts were in operation at Alpine Meadows this morning with the exception of Summit.  It was on windhold earlier, but is operating this afternoon.  It has been snowing all day.

We were skiing in about 6 inches of fresh snow which was enough to give us the feeling of powder and made it fun to look back at our turns.  If it keeps snowing as it is now, tomorrow morning should be a good powder morning.  Powder might be a stretch as it is wet snow that is falling.  Temperatures on the mountain are running about 30 degrees.  Chairs are wet.  My gloves needed to be wrung out at the end of the day.

Skiing was very good.  The new wet snow was not so deep as to make for difficult turning.  It was smooth and soft in many places, especially on the lower angle slopes (Scott Meadow, Power Line, side of Yellow Trail.  Under Alpine Bowl Chair, High Yellow, and Gentian were all excellent.  A few spots that received sun the other day were firm below the surface.  God’s Knob and Standard were a couple that were crunchy below the surface.  We found some untracked snow in the trees next to Robinhood, and on the slopes of Powerline, Scott Meadow, Gentian, and Expert Shortcut.

A couple of photos are attached that I snapped while riding Subway after a delicious run down Gentian.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
