Nice Day but a Tough Winter

Hello Skiers and Riders,

We are having a tough time living in the mountains this season.  More than enough snow, perhaps too much at times, drenching rains, avalanches, mud slides, falling trees, and power outages.  It seems as if I am resetting my clocks on a daily basis (sometimes twice a day).  The power was out again in Alpine Meadows this afternoon.  I understand some of you were stuck on lifts that stop when the power failed.  What else can go wrong?  Lift lines with no end, full parking lots, east winds putting lifts on hold, closed highways, etc..  Getting in a full relaxed day of skiing is getting more difficult with each passing day.

I was out this morning in the sunshine enjoying trees piled high with snow, reasonable lift lines, wonderful grooming, and the surprised and appreciated 8:30 opening of most lifts.  Unfortunately Summit was again on windhold, but the rest of the lifts were turning with only Sherwood delayed.  We stayed on the groomed runs for most of the morning.  I think many of the off piste slopes were crusty or just firm skier pack.  I assume it may have softened later in the day before the power went out.

Hopefully we will have a few normal days of full operation now that the rain and snow have stopped and sunshine is flooding the slopes.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
